Handyman
Handyman cost guide
Small handyman visits in this metro often land between $150 and $300 because the trip, not the single screw, sets the minimum. Use the ranges below to plan. They are not quotes. The pro you hire sets the price.
We connect Nashville homeowners with independent, vetted local pros.
Typical estimates
| Job | Typical estimate | What the range assumes |
|---|---|---|
| Short honey-do or small repair | $150–$300 | Trip minimum more than the part. |
| TV mount, straightforward drywall | $100–$150 | Plaster and masonry cost more. |
| Half day of mixed tasks | $250–$450 | A written list, not a remodel. |
| Light rental make-ready | $200–$600 | Not whole-unit paint or floors. |
| About $3,000 or more in Davidson or Rutherford | Ask for a home improvement license | Do not treat it as a honey-do. |
| $25,000 or more | Ask for a state contractor license | Statewide threshold. Confirm before you hire. |
What’s included
- A way to compare two bids without treating our ranges as either pro’s price
- The budget question on the quote form, which exists so large jobs are not sent to the wrong trade
- Links to each service page for the narrow version of the work
What this is not
- A binding price list
- A promise that your ZIP code matches the low end of a range
- Legal advice about licensing
Around Nashville
Franklin, Brentwood, and Green Hills often sit toward the high end of a small-job range because houses are larger and minimums are higher. A Donelson or Antioch ranch is more often the low end if the task is truly small.
In Davidson County and Rutherford County, home-improvement work of $3,000 or more generally requires a Tennessee home improvement license. Work of $25,000 or more requires a state contractor license anywhere this guide is talking about. Other counties do not automatically use the $3,000 local rule. Confirm the county of the job site.
What changes the price
Minimums
A 20-minute towel bar still costs a trip. Bundling tasks is how the hourly math improves.
Parts
Labor quotes assume you bought the faucet, the fan, or the door, unless the pro says they will supply it.
County
Goodlettsville and Spring Hill can confuse this. The address’s county matters, not the city’s marketing name.
Trade limits
New circuits and repipes are not bargains a handyman should offer.
How to choose a pro
- Get the scope in writing: which tasks, whose parts, whether paint is included.
- Compare two bids only after the scope matches. A cheap bid that skips the second coat is not the same job.
- Ask for the license that fits the county and the dollar amount, and check it. NashHomePros does not check it for you.
- Use the quote form’s budget ranges honestly, including “not sure.”
Questions
Why don’t you list one price per ZIP code?
Because the task, access, and materials move the price more than the city name. City pages explain local housing. This page explains the math.
Are your pros licensed?
We do not claim that. You should ask and verify. Vetted, on this site, means we collected business details before selling a lead. It is not a license check.
What should I put in the request?
Trade, service, ZIP, a rough size, a budget range, timing, and a specific description. Photos are not collected on this form yet. A pro can ask for them after you connect.
